On this page you will find information on who you can contact for help with various problems. You can find the contact details of Asteriski’s officers here.
Accessibility
Accessibility is about minimising the threshold of physical, psychological and social barriers. It can be whether an office is accessible or whether special arrangements are needed, for example for a selection test or for studies. At the departmental level, such as office accessibility, the Asterisk Accessibility Officer is responsible, while in other situations the University of Turku Accessibility Advisor is best placed to help.
Harassment
Misconduct, harassment, bullying and discrimination must always be addressed, and harassment should always be reported to Asteriski’s harassment contact persons. Asteriski’s Discord and facilities are the responsibility of the Asteriski’s Board. If you encounter inappropriate behaviour in either, you can contact any member of the board here.
If you wish, you can also contact the TYY Harassment Liaison Officer. The Harassment Liaison Officer will act as a discussion facilitator, can be present to resolve conflict situations if requested, and will refer the person to the right kind of help if necessary.
Mental Health
Mental health problems are among the most common health problems among university students. Sleep disturbances, concentration problems, anxiety and depression are often problems that students struggle with alone. However, help is available for these, for example through YTHS. The TYY also has a comprehensive page on mental health services for students.
Studies
If you feel that you have experienced unfairness in the marking of your coursework or dissertation, for example, or in any other matter related to your studies/guidance, please contact the Asterisk Student Adviser or the TYY Education Policy Specialist.
“The coursework must be evaluated and the results must be published and submitted to the system as soon as possible, but no later than three weeks after the performance.”
Social policy issues
When you don’t know who to turn to for help with issues such as income, housing or welfare, the Asteriski agreement officer or the social policy expert at TYY can help. The social policy expert can give you more information about student empowerment and action in the areas of social policy and welfare.
