Asteriski ry (*) is an association of students of computer science at the University of Turku, founded in 1972. Asteriski has over 300 members. The association’s current headquarters are located in the basement of the Agora building on Vesilinnantie.
The association’s activities are based on caring for its members and promoting their studies. In the Department of Future Technologies, the association is an active advocate of the interests of students and a link between the department and the students. The aim is to improve student relations and solve problems related to studying. The main channels for advocacy are the student representatives in the departmental council and the study team working group.
The association is also active in maintaining relations with other subject associations and industry bodies. For example, Asteriski is represented in both the Association of ICT Professionals and the Association of IT Students. For new students, the association is above all a source of information and encouragement to get their studies off to a smooth start.
Free time is an integral part of a student’s life. To this end, the association organises events for its members outside normal study hours. Some of these events focus on the preservation of traditions and the student’s evening life. These events include laits and mini-celebrations.
Other events are also organised on a regular basis, for example to promote sport or to improve knowledge of the sector. The aim is to offer as wide a range of activities as possible to suit the interests of the membership. See the events calendar for more information on events.
